Why do reinsurances exist?

Even insurance companies cannot individually bear all risks themselves. In particular, for the situation where individual risks accumulate due to overriding occurrences (e.g. in the case of collective passenger transport vehicles such as aircraft or cruise ships or the collapse of a large building) and cause major financial losses.

Reinsurance companies are involved in these cases. The business of reinsurance is therefore to cover events with large effects but small probabilities of occurrence. So far, everything is clear, isn’t it? Why don’t you do the same for your biggest corporate asset, namely your corporate data?
